Careers education is an integral part of the school’s educational program. The curriculum focuses on the development of students’ skills, knowledge and attitudes through a planned program of learning experiences. We empower students to make informed decisions about school and post-school education, training and employment options and participation in the community.
The school has Career Advisers who provides advice and information on subject choice selection, post-school courses, alternative career pathways and career options. The Careers Advisers organise speakers from universities, businesses and organisations to help advise students of varied career options. There are opportunities for students to obtain first-hand information at seminars, university and TAFE open days, trade fairs and careers expos.
Vocational Education lessons are part of the school curriculum in Year 10. The purpose is to assist students to develop the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes necessary to make informed decisions about school and post-school options and support participation in work experience opportunities. Year 10 students will prepare for future employment by developing their job seeking and portfolio preparation skills.
All students are encouraged to make a time to speak to a Careers Adviser concerning their career choices. Appointment bookings can be made using our online booking form.
In order to support students in their important career decisions, Cherrybrook Technology High School has chosen to implement a comprehensive career assessment program called the Morrisby Profile. Year 10 students will be invited to complete the assessment. Upon completion, students will have access to their results and supporting information via the Morrisby Careers Platform.
At this event Year 10 and Year 12 students can access career information from universities, TAFE colleges, employers, career counsellors, organisations with apprenticeship information, providers of study skills programs, HSC resources and lecture programs, international exchange and gap year programs. There will also be seminars on topics including tertiary courses, employment options, HSC subjects, careers, study skills and gap year advice.
All parents and students in the CTHS community are encouraged to register or follow the following resources:
As our career education learning hub, students are encouraged to complete the activities, quizzes, and career exploration tools to investigate viable career pathways. Parents access a wide array of information to facilitate decisions about their child’s future career and life beyond school.
Access to the online Morrisby Careers platform is available to Year 10 students who completed the careers assessment from 2021.
Speak to a Careers Adviser to register your access to use this resource. This is a great starting point to locate information about courses, universities, TAFE and upcoming events.
Visit our SWG Careers Hub to download guides about further study and training. Popular titles include applying for uni, senior subject selection and entry guides to law, nursing, medicine, teaching and teaching.
