Do you love adventure? Ever wondered what it was like for the 39th Battalion to fight at Kokoda? Do you have a passion for History? Well we have some exciting news for you! Miss Kerr is currently coordinating a CTHS school trip to Papua New Guinea to walk the Kokoda track, 9-18 July, 2018.
We will fly to Papua New Guinea via Cairns with one night of accommodation either side of the trek. The expedition will involve 9 days of trekking between Ower’s Corner and Kokoda through the Owen Stanley Range. In 2016 a group from CTHS successfully walked the track and it was the most incredible experience – incorporating fitness, resilience, history and mateship.
The tour operators that we have selected have been taking tour groups for over 17 years and have an impeccable record. To ensure students are well looked after we have decided that we will take a maximum of 16 students on the expedition. An experienced tour guide, porters and five CTHS teachers will be accompanying students on the expedition. All the teachers have first aid qualifications and are experienced trekkers.
Prior to the expedition, we will be undertaking a number of training walks on the weekends leading up to the trip. On these hikes, students will be accompanied by teachers to an area of similar terrain and will be walking with their back packs that they will be carrying during the trek. The training walks will be complemented with a specifically designed training program for both students and staff.
